This feels like a good time add one of my favorite weird inventions from history: The book wheel, invented in 1588
Now that SAG is officially on strike alongside the WGA, remember:
No individual actor or writer is at fault if a project gets delayed or cancelled.
It’s all on the studios, networks, and streamers.
Absolutely—put the blame on the studios who aren't paying their workers fairly. Support the WGA and SAG-AFTRA to get a fair contrac, keep encouraging their members on social media, and donate to the Entertainment Community Fund if you can. The studios mean to starve out the guilds—let's make sure the opposite happens.
also, please, please remember that while they are on strike the whole industry is effectively shut down. Greedy capitalists aren’t just starving writers and actors (newsflash, there are actors who are not multimillionaires who are striking too), but literally everyone. PAs. Grips. Costuming. Anyone who works on a production in any capacity is shut down. They’re all counting on benefits and donations and good will while they support each other. Remember that the studios are starving an entire industry in order to keep hoarding money from those whose labor created the things you love.
might i also add: anyone that works in post-production and vfx are also touched by the strike. it's touching everybody working in the industry. the shut down happening in hollywood will catch up with post-production departments. it already has! a lot of vfx artists (who would also strike if they could) around the world (not only in the states) have lost their jobs due to the strike already, due to low work load. the entire industry needs everyone to support this strike. the studios mean to starve out everybody in the industry.
the way these strikes get framed is always so funny to me
"the strike could stretch on until the end of summer" or the execs could pay their workers
"there won't be ANY new shows because of this strike" or the execs could pay their workers
"no more content for us because the mean old writers and actors are-" OR THE EXECS COULD PAY THEIR WORKERS
